Hello!
I have a client who delivered a IBM Server with a faulty raid a few days ago. I managed to get the data over to a new working set of drives. However, during installation of ESX Server 3i the drive to be installed on was mistakely chosen, and one of the new datadrives was chosen. Disk was wiped.
On that disk was mainly a virtual machine and a datastore for that ofcourse there is no backup of. I have been googling this for quite some time now, and I cannot find a good way to recover theese files. (VMDK disk file beeing the important one ofcourse) - I tried diskinternals VMFS recovery software but instead of helping me extract the vmdk file it searched inside it giving me singlefiles from the virtual machine (Reading clients e-mails wasn't quite what I was wanting to do here). So basicly what I need is a way to recover the old partition(table?) as it was, the disk is not used after this incident ofcourse. I am by far no expert in ESX but I got a good grip on things, using the unsupported tech support terminal etc.
Any good ideas? I tried vmfs-undelete as somebody on IRC told me to do, but this being esxi it isn't available, neither do I have a block list (as it stated is needed for this command).
Thanks.
